The mind

Our various mind faculties. How we can use ALL of them for our benefit.

 

1) the imaginative or dreaming mind faculty: produces regular dreams/thoughts (words and/or images). These dreams are TOTALLY NORMAL, and can be random (occur automatically or involuntarily) or they can be voluntary or pre-planned (occur intentionally). Random/automatic ones are never resisted or fought with, but acknowledged and accepted. We can learn to live with them and not allow them to disturb us with practice. 

2) the attention mind faculty: that part of our mind that is either:

a) fixed on involuntary/unplanned dreams or voluntary/planned dreams.

b) fixed on what is 'present' outside (what we're seeing, hearing, tasting, touching, or smelling at a particular moment in time).

c) fixed on nothing (a rarity and usually only happens in those people who are engaged in a regular contemplative prayer practice such as Christian centering prayer). 

99% of people don't use the additional three mind faculties below for their benefit. We believe they are gifts of the Holy Spirit (John 16:13), typically given when someone asks to be anointed with/receive the Holy Spirit

3) the awareness or observer mind faculty: that part of the mind that sees or notices what dreams/thoughts our attention is focused on 

4) the reasoning mind faculty: that part of the mind that assesses dreams/thoughts as being either true, or false(lies), per scripture.

 

5) the will mind faculty: that part of the mind that allows people to direct what they place their attention on (words/images).

 

By not using these 3rd, 4th, and 5th mind faculties, human beings often unconsciously / unknowingly keep/maintain their attention mind faculty on fearful, guilty, envious, or angry thoughts and dreams.  And allowing these dreams to go un-confronted and have free-reign,  will eventually lead a person to experiencing dis-ease. This confirms the sacred scripture Truth that it's the Truth, and only the Truth, that will set a person free.

KEY LESSON: by use of these 3rd, 4th, and 5th mind faculties, we have the ability to place our attention on whatever we choose to place it on.

 

This is where the healing begins for most people:

When they come to the realization that while totally normal and are to be acknowledged and accepted, the random, involuntary, unplanned, automatic dreams (words and images) that they experience, are NOT 'Them'. Therefore, these types of dreams are totally and completely 100% irrelevant & meaningless. 'Them' is the one, the being, who SEES the dreams and assesses them for Truth (2 Corinthians 10:5).

Of course we don't assess dreams/thoughts for Truth while lying in bed.  We'd be up all night. Therefore, we can choose to relax and choose peace in God's presence, knowing that ALL dreams/thoughts that occur during this period, are 100% completely meaningless and irrelevant.  This is liberation: the dreams (thoughts, words and images) that we experience during bed/sleep time, are totally and completely meaningless and irrelevant.
