Fear

"Peace is that tranquility of the

heart, which derives from the all

prevailing consciousness, that our

times are in God's hands"

William Barclay, Author, Minister, Professor, TV personality

"Fear then as an emotion, is NOT

US. When we say, "I am afraid," this

is NOT true. We should say, "I have

feelings of fear". Once this

distinction gets clear in your mind,

you realize that feelings can change.

The real YOU is the great 'I AM', the

center of your being"

Rev. Thomas Keating

"Be patient with yourself, as you

become more and more deeply

aware that your thoughts don't

define you "

Dr. Gail Brenner

Fear IS the source of all suffering, sadness, and despair. Seeking healing from the negative effects of fear and/or anxiety ? Experiencing another intense/upsetting emotion such as guilt, envy, or anger? Experiencing uncomfortable bodily sensations with these emotions? Well, you're not alone. Every human being that has ever lived, every Pope and Billy Graham, has experienced intense emotions such as fear. It's important that we have the tools necessary to deal with these emotions in a healthy fashion and manner when they occur so they don't become strongholds. We highly recommend the teachings of Dr. Gail Brenner.

What to do in the moment when the emotion of fear or anxiety are intense

(screen shot or bookmark of the below is recommended, so you can refer to in time of need. Of course when we are resting, we don't follow any method or steps. We softly, in thought or word, state: "Situation's yours God. Thanks for taking it?

Breathe: focus your attention on 3-4 long deep breaths to begin calming the nervous system

Say the brief prayer: "Lord, come to my assistance. Lord, make haste to help me."

Acknowledge that the normal human emotion of fear/anxiety is present, along with any correspondoing feelings in the body.

Accept what is happening in the moment in the mind and body. Choose not to fight, resist, or try to eliminate it. Can't change what's happening in 'the now'.  Trying to do so is the cause of suffering.

G-E-N-T-L-Y proclaim a WORD OF POWER/TRUTH: "God's Word states, I, 'new man', do not worry about my life, my body or tomorrow" .

Give the fear/anxiety to God, believing by an act of faith, God takes it all, whether it feels like it or not.

Gently move your 'attention' away from fearful or anxious stories or commentaries in the mind and willfully bring your attention back to the present moment: what you see (sky, trees, an object), what you're hearing (voices, nature, music), tasting (food or beverage), or touching (bedding, furniture, clothing, car, another person, items found in nature).

Make an act of thanksgivog: "God, thank you that your power is being perfected in me in these weaknesses".

What prevents us from finding happiness? It's a lack of a sense of the presence of God. We feel alienated from God, so the world is a frightening place. If we had the sense of union with God, we'd not be afraid. But since we do not, we feel alone.
